20 years ago I first met Jan Fabre. A great artist and a pivotal creator in theater. No doubt, without the figure of Jan Fabre, contemporary theater would be different due his immense influence in this field. His performances are obviously not about a world of pink cotton, but about the body, blood, flesh, pain, orgy … a Dionysian summun opposed to the Apollonian.
I cannot imagine reaching such intensity if the creator, rehearsals and development are not necessarily intense as well.
The Jan Fabre that I know, is an intense and tough person… and a person of great GENEROSITY, intelligent, really funny and brilliant in his conversation. And, above all, respectful with other artists and collaborators, encouraging them to grow and develop.
